What is a gateway
In the world of home automation, the gateway (or bridge) is a physical device that acts as a hub (control center), to be connected to the Internet, which acts as an interface between the network and the IoT devices. It is essential to allow IoT devices to communicate with the gateway via radio or BLE (Bluetooth low Energy) and to connect to remote servers, so as to be able to control the system remotely.
How does the gateway work?
The gateway connects to your Internet via Wi-Fi or wired, and is able to communicate with other smart home devices , such as cameras, motion or door sensors, lights and thermostats . It allows centralized control of these devices via a mobile application or virtual assistant.
